Unique Properties

In response to the excellent surrounding environment of this project, the open style space welcomes the Beitou most precious ecological greenery, forming a peaceful world for two people. In addition, from the moment of entering the space, the space is full of interesting elements such as round hooks, geometric display cabinets, pinewood pegboards, colorful furniture, and soft furnishings. Through visual extension and interaction, the connecting sceneries are in harmony and consists of modernity, enjoyment, and simplicity.

Production Technology

The design team followed the idea of simplifying and only used birch plywood, cement bricks, wooden flooring, imported tiles, and pinewood and presented them in their original forms with minimum processing, thereby reducing cumbersome construction and loss of surface materials while protecting the environment through the designing process.

Design Challenge

In order to create a simple and clear space, the facade of the whole space is presented in white, and the storage cabinets are mostly open. However, for the elderly, white is a cold and monotonous color, and the open cabinet also has doubts about being dirty. Through a long period of communicating with the client about design, the design team not only enriches the pure white space with some warmth but also provides more convenience and accessible space design.

Project Duration

The project was completed in September 2019 in Taipei City, Taiwan.

Operation Flow

Taking the safety consideration of the elderly and convenience into account, the whole residence is open and barrier-free. All storage functions are concentrated in the elevated Japanese-styled room, while the other rooms are equipped with shelves, platforms, hollow cabinets, etc., creating simple yet complete practical functionalities. In order to interpret a new concept of retirement, the designers installed colorful furniture and soft decoration, exquisite, interesting creative designs for the couple.

Research

Broke away from the concept of conventional retirement homes and upheld the core value of "environment first, space second". With vibrant yet elegant colors, simple and clean material vocabulary, and creative designs rich in "Taiwanese flavors", created a leisurely and relaxing atmosphere in the vast and unpretentious space. In addition to the multi-functional Japanese-style room, the step-less design and the hollow, open storage function perfectly construct a convenient, barrier-free life.

Inspiration

The design team balances practical functionalities and the spiritual. A space rich in humanity was brought forth through open, semi-penetrated, and blank motifs. Natural light and greenery are invoked by maximizing windows so that the environment and people complement each other. To subvert the impression of elderly living space, the team utilized elegant, casual, and vivid colors and soft furnishings to introduce a younger visual experience and creative ideas, thereby giving the residents a vibrant, elegant, and wise "twilight aesthetics".
